Sewage Treatment Plant Servicing

Drainstore recognise that all sewage treatment systems and pumping stations require a low-cost, reliable service and maintenance package to compliment the investment made in their system. This will ensure they operate efficiently, and conform to the requirements of the Environment Agency and Building Control.

This appeals to a wide spectrum of customers, ranging from a single domestic householder right through to large corporations.

We currently work with many domestic householders and over 25 Local Authorities and Housing Associations, many major national chains of Pub & Hotel Companies and Garden Centres. We also provide service packages for The National Trust, English Nature, Crown Estates and the Ministry of Defence. Experience of a more technical nature has been gained by working on petrol station, oil refinery and nuclear power station sites.

Pumping Station Servicing

It is extremely important that customers with pumps or pumping stations maintain their systems to ensure that they work efficiently. Sewage can be a corrosive environment in which mechanical equipment operates.

Failure to maintain the pumps within a pumping station could cause backing up of the drains, damage to the property and the inability to use the facilities within the property.

Drainstore provides nationwide service and maintenance packages for all types of foul, rainwater and effluent pumping stations together with all types of sewage treatment plant. This includes planned and emergency response cover, system refurbishment and pump rewinding.

The Benefits of correct maintenance are as follows:

  • Your pumping station is being correctly maintained according to the manufacturers recommended guidelines.
  • Prompt breakdown call outs.
  • A service report after each visit.
  • Advice on how to look after the system.
  • Spare parts carried on our vehicles, and if a part is needed that we are not carrying, we will be able to source this usually within 24 hours.

Pumping Station Maintenance

To ensure a long and cost effective operational life, all pumping systems require routine servicing and preventative maintenance to avoid potential costly breakdowns. Drainstore offer an excellent service contract package on all sizes and makes of pump stations from domestic through to industrial sites.

We provide preventative routine servicing, emergency response breakdown and repairs for sewage pumping stations, storm water pumping stations, effluent pumping stations, etc. regardless of make, design, age or condition.

We allow for between one to four visits per year consisting of major and general services. We can also arrange for tankering and jetting of your pumping station when required to avoid build up of sludge, grease, etc. The frequency of cleaning will vary depending on the type application and how active your pumping station is. In routine operations, grease will float and settle at the top of the chamber and the solids will settle at the bottom. It is important that grease is cleaned on a regular basis to ensure the pumping station remains in good working order.

Using a fully qualified and dedicated team of engineers, we provide a service of planned preventative maintenance, along with emergency response for sewage, storm and freshwater pumps regardless of make or design.

The scheduling of any visits will be arranged at your convenience and completed with a 21 point check on every service visit, details can be found below on our submersible pumping station maintenance schedule.

Sewage treatment plant servicing

All sewage treatment plants require regular maintenance and emptying to ensure that the effluent they produce complies with the requirements of the Environment Agency.

All manufacturers of sewage treatment plants advise of a recommended service interval for each model and size. These will differ for each treatment plant and Drainstore are able to advise of the recommended service regime for your particular model no matter how old.

Drainstore provides nationwide service and maintenance packages for all types of sewage treatment plants and foul, rainwater and effluent pumping stations. This includes planned and emergency response cover, system refurbishment and pump rewinding.

If you are looking to purchase a new sewage system, Drainstore will also be able to advise you of the emptying and service interval for any model currently on the market.

The Benefits of correct maintenance are as follows:

  • Your sewage plant is being correctly maintained according with the manufacturers recommended guidelines.
  • Prompt breakdown call outs.
  • A service report after each visit.
  • A sludge test to advise when emptying is required.
  • Effluent quality testing if required.
  • Advice on how to look after the system.
  • Spare parts carried on our vehicles, and if a part is needed that we are not carrying, we will be able to source this usually within 24 hours.

Why the maintenance of your sewage treatment plant is essential

  • It is your legal responsibility. Maintenance involves looking after any mechanical aspect of the treatment unit not just the annual emptying of the tank.
  • Treatment plants need regular maintenance to ensure problem-free operation and to avoid polluting the groundwater or watercourse.
  • Failure to maintain a sewage treatment plant could cause difficulties within the unit and sometimes these problems cannot be rectified. In the worst case a new sewage treatment plant must be installed.
  • The Water Resources Act 1991 as amended by The Environment Act 1995 Consent to Discharge section stipulates that a log of sewage plant maintenance shall be kept for inspection by Agency Officers for a period not less than five years.
  • The 2002 Building Regulations Part H2 states that regular maintenance and inspection should be carried out in accordance with the manufacturers instructions’ and that the owner is legally responsible to ensure that the system does not cause pollution, a health hazard or a nuisance.
  • Under the EPP2 Legislation, 2010, the maximum fine for pollution due to lack of maintaining a sewage treatment system is fixed at up to £100,000 or 3 months imprisonment.
  • It is a condition of your Environment Agency Exemption or Permit that your sewage treatment plant is serviced according to the manufacturers‘ instructions. Failure to do so may invalidate your Permit. You must keep the previous 5 years service reports to prove this.

Therefore it is essential the sewage treatment plant is maintained by an accredited service engineer who has also been trained by the manufacturer on the product.

As the UK suffers increasingly from dry winters and groundwater levels fall, it is vital that we do not contaminate the land with untreated sewage effluent.
